I stared at the gravestone
Of a once beloved friend
One who valued life?
But, it came to a tragic end

I read the dates engraved in stone
Of the day that he was born
A life filled with happiness
The life from which he was torn

As I read the next date
My eyes were filled with tears
Then I remember more importantly
Was the dash between the years

For all he had done in life
Was contained in a little dash
Not the unimportant things like
The house, the car, the cash

But the friends he cherished in his life
The moments he had
The love of his large family
And the joy of being a dad

So when they read your eulogy
Will you feel regret?
The dash of things you left behind
The one no one will forget
.
